Principal's Address

School Year 2009/2010

I would like to welcome all our students and staff back to St. Brendan’s for the 2009/2010 school year. I am very honoured and privileged to be taking over as Principal this year and will work hard to build on the great reputation which St. Brendan’s already has for providing an excellent all-round second level education to the boys of Bray and Shankill.

The entire school community in St. Brendan’s is immensely proud of the success of our students in this years Junior and Leaving Certificate examinations. One student, Michael Clancy, achieved a magnificent 590 points in the Leaving Certificate, which was the best leaving certificate result among all the schools in the area. A large percentage of our students received over 300 points and most have secured third level places. We wish them all the best of luck in their future studies and careers.

Additional facilities were added to the school this year including the refurbishment of the science labs, the installation of new showers in the dressing rooms, the redesign of the car park as well as general repairs and maintenance. We plan to continue this investment over the next year with the purchase of interactive whiteboards and other facilities to enhance teaching and learning within the school.

As always, extra-curricular activities, both sporting and non-sporting, will continue to play a big part of school life in St. Brendan’s this year. As well as the many school teams, we plan to continue our Wednesday afternoon programme whereby students can experience coaching and practice in a wide range of fields including sport, music and drama.

I would like to thank all the parents who give so generously of their time to help out on the Parent’s Council, Board of Management and at the various school functions and events throughout the year. The huge support which we get from our parents is one of the reasons why St. Brendan’s is the great school that it is today. Finally, I would like to wish all our students, their parents and families a wonderful, happy and safe year and the best of luck in everything they do.
